AI Findability
AI Findability is the practice of making your business easy for Google, AI answer engines, buyer agents, and real humans to find, understand, trust, and recommend.
That sentence is the whole discipline. The rest of this page explains what it means in practice, what it is not, and how to know if you have a problem.
What is AI Findability?
Buyers changed how they research. They still Google. But they also ask ChatGPT for a shortlist, ask Perplexity to compare three vendors, and read the AI Overview before they ever see a blue link. Soon their software will do the comparing for them.
Every one of those systems builds its answer from source material. Your website is the source material you control.
AI Findability is the work of making that source material unmistakable: what you do, who you serve, where you operate, what you charge, why anyone should believe you. When a machine can extract those facts cleanly, it can repeat them accurately. When it cannot, it guesses, and it does not guess in your favor.
Is AI Findability the same as SEO?
No. SEO is part of it.
Everything that made a site rank still matters: crawlable pages, honest titles, internal links, speed, useful content. None of that went away. What changed is the finish line. Old SEO ended at the click. AI Findability ends at the recommendation.
That adds work SEO never asked of you: entity clarity, structured data that matches what the page actually says, proof a machine can quote, answers to the questions buyers actually ask, and consistency between your site and every other place your business shows up.
SEO did not die. Lazy SEO did. This is the version that survived.
How do you show up in ChatGPT or Perplexity?
The honest answer: you cannot buy your way in and nobody can guarantee placement. Anyone who promises that is selling you weather control.
What you can control is whether these systems understand you when they look:
Say what you do in plain language, on pages built for the question.
One clear service per page beats one clever page about everything. That is the core of AI search optimization.
Keep your facts consistent everywhere.
Site, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile, directories. Conflicting facts read as doubt, and machines discount doubt.
Use structured data that matches the visible page.
Schema is a label, not a costume. See schema strategy for AI search.
Publish proof.
Named results, real numbers, real clients. Systems trained to detect fluff get better at it every quarter.
Stay crawlable.
If your robots.txt, theme, or hosting slows crawlers down, you are invisible before the conversation starts. This is what agent-ready websites get right.
Then test it. Ask the tools the questions your buyers ask, in a fresh session, and see what comes back. That is the scoreboard.
Does schema guarantee AI visibility?
No. Schema is a clarifier, not a ranking hack.
Structured data helps machines connect facts you have already published: this organization, this person, this service, this location, these reviews. If the page is vague, schema just makes the vagueness machine-readable.
Get the page right first. Then mark it up. In that order.
Who should care about AI Findability?
Established businesses with something to lose. If you already get leads from search, referrals, or reputation, the shift to AI answers is already redistributing your pipeline, quietly, whether you watch it or not.
If you are brand new with no offer and no proof, fix that first. Findability multiplies what exists. It cannot multiply zero.
Where Findability OS fits
Findability OS is the framework behind this work, built by me and my cofounder Jeane Sumner, and run daily inside Sumner Digital and Website HQ. Six parts: Position, Structure, Signals, Proof, Presence, Testing. Together they cover positioning, site structure, technical SEO, schema, entity signals, proof, AI search testing, and conversion paths.
The Findability OS Audit is where every engagement starts.

The first step is not more content. It is a diagnosis.
